# Vault Or Wallets

> Every strategy and swap runs from a source: your private Sonar Vault, one of your wallets, or a whole wallet group.

Where you trade from decides who can see your trades. It is the most important choice you make on Sonar.

> [card] Sonar Vault
>
> Assets deposited into Sonar and held privately. Sonar’s executors place the trades so they don’t point back to you.

> [card] Your Wallets
>
> Wallets you import or generate. They trade themselves, public on-chain like any wallet.

## Compare

| | Sonar Vault | Your wallets |
| - | - | - |
| What it is | Your private Sonar balance, held in Sonar’s audited smart-contract vault | Wallets you import or generate, each with its own address |
| Who executes | Sonar’s executors, rotating on every chain | The wallet itself |
| On-chain visibility | Trades don’t point back to you | Public on-chain, like any wallet |
| Gas | Recovered on each transaction | Paid from the wallet’s own native balance |
| Private funding | Private fund | Private fund |
| Groups | Not needed | Run one strategy across up to 100 wallets |

## Which One To Pick

> [tab] Vault
>
> * You want execution that can’t be traced to your address.
> * You don’t want to manage gas or wallets
> * Want to simplify your automation

> [tab] Wallets
>
> * The trades must come from specific addresses, for example team or treasury wallets.
>
> * You want to spread activity across many wallets in a group.
>
> * You already hold the tokens in wallets and don’t want to move them.
>
> > [!WARNING]
> >
> > **Wallet Trades Are Public**\
> > Strategies and swaps from your wallets are signed by those wallets, so anyone can see them on-chain. Private Fund only hides where the money came from. For private execution, trade from your Vault.

## Picking A Source

When you set a strategy or swap, you pick the source. Only places that hold the token show up, sorted by balance. The Vault is just one of them.
