# DCA

> Breaks your position into scheduled orders and executes them on your timeline.

Core

DCA runs on a schedule you set. Choose the number of orders and the interval between them. Your committed balance is divided evenly, and one order executes each interval until it’s complete.

The order schedule in the Sonar app: the amount split into equal orders.

## When To Use It

> [card] Good For
>
> * Predictable, steady buying or selling
> * A planned treasury exit, where timing matters more than reacting to the market

> [card] Watch Out For
>
> * It trades even into a weak market
> * Steady timing can become easy to spot.

## How It Works

| Part | How it works |
| - | - |
| Slices | How many orders and how far apart, in minutes or hours. |
| Order size | Your size divided by the number of orders. $50,000 over 100 orders every hour is $500 an hour. |
| End time | The first order goes right away, so the last lands after (orders − 1) × interval. |

Plan one here: set the size, the number of orders and the interval.

> Varies each order’s size and the time between orders, so there’s no clean pattern to spot. The total stays the same.

## Set It Up

**1. Open Create Strategy**

Pick the chain, choose Buy or Sell, then Core and DCA. Add a name if you like, and press Continue.

**2. Pick The Token And Size**

Select the token and how much to trade, the source if more than one holds it, and the counter asset: the chain’s native token or a stablecoin.

**3. Set The Schedule**

Every sets the time between orders, Over sets how many orders.

**4. Add Optional Parameters**

Extra parameters, such as limits or a scheduled start. Skip them to run on defaults.

**5. Set Strategy**

It starts right away, or at your scheduled start.

## Optional Settings

> [accordion] Limits
>
> Decide whether it trades at all.
>
> | Setting | What it does |
> | - | - |
> | Minimum limit (sell) | Only sells while the market cap or price is above your value. |
> | Maximum limit (buy) | Only buys while the market cap or price is below your value. |
> | Price impact threshold | Skips a trade when its estimated price impact is above the threshold. 10% by default. |

> | Randomize frequency | Varies the time between orders. |

> | Route Selection (Solana) | Auto picks Jupiter or Titan for the best rate. Or commit to one aggregator, or one pool (Raydium, Meteora or Pump Swap). |
> | Smart gas (Ethereum only) | Waits for gas within your tolerance of the 24-hour average: Low, Moderate, High or Very High. |

## FAQ

> [accordion] When does the first order go?
>
> Right away. The last order lands after (orders − 1) × interval.

> [accordion] Does the randomizer change my total?
>
> No. It varies each order’s size and timing, but the total stays the same.

> [accordion] Why does my strategy show Waiting?
>
> A limit isn’t met. That isn’t an error: the strategy keeps watching and resumes on its own when the condition is met again.

> [accordion] Can I pair DCA with another strategy?
>
> Yes. A slow DCA for a steady baseline plus a Volume sell for busy moments is a common pair.
