# Ripple

> Distributes inventory gradually by trading both sides of price movement.

Expert

Ripple centers on a moving average and trades swings within a range you set. It sells and buys in legs instead of selling all at once, and runs until its funds are used up or a limit you set is reached. Built for project owners managing token inventory.

Pace settings in the Sonar app: how often legs run and how much each one sells.

## When To Use It

> [card] Good For
>
> * Distributing inventory gradually instead of all at once
> * Token teams and treasuries managing inventory

> [card] Watch Out For
>
> * Not suited to small starting balances.
> * Ends with a small residual balance

## How It Works

Each sell leg sells a share of what is left, and each buy back returns a share of that leg. Change the inputs and see how inventory steps down.

## Settings

This setup has four parts.

> [tab] Wave
>
> Amplitude sets how far each swing moves from the center, as a percentage of market cap or price. EMA center smoothing sets how slowly the center follows the market. Re-center after snaps the center back to the current price once it drifts too far.

> [tab] Pace
>
> Leg interval sets how often legs execute, and leg size sets how much each one trades. Swing strength sets how much of your balance a swing commits before it reverses. Max same-side legs forces a turn after that many legs in one direction.

> [tab] Inventory
>
> Inventory aware holds a reserve to absorb volatility and extend how long the strategy runs. Keep surplus holds what better-than-expected fills earn and pays it out at completion instead of recycling it. Exit asset sets which side you hold when it completes.

> [tab] Completion
>
> Ripple runs until its funds are exhausted. Set a maximum number of legs or a maximum duration to end it sooner.

## Set It Up

**1. Open Create Strategy**

Pick the chain, choose Buy or Sell, then Expert and Ripple. Add a name if you like, and press Continue.

**2. Pick The Token And Size**

Select the token and how much to trade, the source if more than one holds it, and the counter asset: the chain’s native token or a stablecoin.

**3. Set Wave, Pace, Inventory And Completion**

The four parts explained under Settings above.

**4. Add Optional Parameters**

Extra parameters, such as limits or a scheduled start. Skip them to run on defaults.

**5. Set Strategy**

It starts right away, or at your scheduled start.

## FAQ

> [accordion] Why is Ripple slower than a plain sell?
>
> Buy-back legs use part of the proceeds, so Ripple distributes more slowly than Volume or DCA.

> [accordion] Does Ripple ever stop on its own?
>
> Only if you set a maximum number of legs or a maximum duration under Completion.

> [accordion] Can I run Ripple next to other strategies?
>
> Yes. Ripple over an unlock period plus a Volume Response sell is a common stack. See [Manage Strategies](https://docs.sonar.trade/strategies/managing-strategies.md#stack-strategies).
