# Volume

> Trades into real market orders as they come in, taking the percentage you set.

Core

Volume only trades when the market does. Each time someone buys, a Volume sell sells your share into that buy. When the market is busy it moves more, and when it is quiet it waits.

A Volume sell in the Sonar app: sell strength with a live example.

## When To Use It

> [card] Good For
>
> * Moving size without standing out
> * Selling into demand after a launch
> * Absorbing sell pressure on the buy side

> [card] Watch Out For
>
> * No fixed end time
> * In a quiet market it waits, possibly for a long time

## How It Works

Your strength sets how much of each incoming trade your strategy counters.

| Direction | Strength | Example |
| - | - | - |
| Sell | 1 to 100% of each incoming buy | Someone buys $1,000 at 25%: Sonar sells $250. |
| Buy | 1 to 200% of each incoming sell | Someone sells $1,000 at 50%: Sonar buys $500. |

* **Small trades**: if your share is below the chain’s minimum, it builds up until it is big enough.
* **MEV**: bot and MEV volume can be left out with Execution Exemptions.

Pick a direction, set the strength and see what Sonar trades against one incoming order.

## Set It Up

**1. Open Create Strategy**

Pick the chain, choose Buy or Sell, then Core and Volume. Add a name if you like, and press Continue.

**2. Pick The Token And Size**

Select the token and how much to trade, the source if more than one holds it, and the counter asset: the chain’s native token or a stablecoin.

**3. Set The Strength**

Lower is quieter but slower. Higher finishes sooner and is more visible.

**4. Add Optional Parameters**

Extra parameters, such as limits or a scheduled start. Skip them to run on defaults.

**5. Set Strategy**

It starts right away, or at your scheduled start.

> [!WARNING]
>
> **High Strength Moves The Price**\
> At high sell strength you take most of every buy, which can stall the chart. Combine with a minimum market cap limit so it pauses on the way down.

## Optional Settings

> [accordion] Limits
>
> Decide whether it trades at all.
>
> | Setting | What it does |
> | - | - |
> | Minimum limit (sell) | Only sells while the market cap or price is above your value. |
> | Maximum limit (buy) | Only buys while the market cap or price is below your value. |
> | Order size | A minimum, a maximum or both for each trade. |
> | Price impact threshold | Skips a trade when its estimated price impact is above the threshold. 10% by default. |
> | Triggers | Sells a percentage of your remaining balance when MC is reached |

> [accordion] Execution
>
> Decide how and when it runs.
>
> | Setting | What it does |
> | - | - |
> | Scheduled start | Starts on a date and time you set. |
> | Execution exemptions | Ignore MEV trades, Sonar’s executors, or up to 150 wallets you list. |

> [accordion] Advanced
>
> Decide how it routes.
>
> | Setting | What it does |
> | - | - |
> | Route (Solana) | Auto picks Jupiter or Titan for the best rate. Or commit to one aggregator, or one pool (Raydium, Meteora or Pump Swap). |
> | Smart gas (Ethereum only) | Waits for gas within your tolerance of the 24-hour average: Low, Moderate, High or Very High. |

> [!WARNING]
>
> **Turning Price Impact Off**\
> A higher threshold, or none, lets trades execute at worse prices, so you may receive less value per trade.

## FAQ

> [accordion] What happens in a quiet market?
>
> It waits. Volume only trades when real buyers or sellers show up, so there is no fixed end time.

> [accordion] Why does my strategy show Waiting?
>
> A limit isn’t met. That isn’t an error: the strategy keeps watching and resumes on its own when the condition is met again.

> [accordion] Can I change the strength while it runs?
>
> Yes. Strength, limits and most other settings can be adjusted while it runs. See [Manage Strategies](https://docs.sonar.trade/strategies/managing-strategies.md).
